If you are a contractor and do a lot of tile jobs, you really need a good tile saw. Below are some of the options that are available to you. Depending on your needs and budget, one of these types should do a great job for you.
Handheld Wet Tile Saw
This saw has a diamond dusted carbide blade that grinds through the tile. You use it similarly to a circular saw. However, water is provided through a hose or a container on the saw. You can do some limited dry cuts with this saw, but most of the time you should use water to cool the blade. A handheld saw can do most of the tile jobs that other models can. You also can do specialty cuts. The main advantage of this saw is it is very portable. Keep in mind though that this saw is not appropriate to cut stone tiles. This type of tool usually has a lock-on switch to keep your hands from getting tired.
Table Top Wet Tile Saw
These are very much like a regular carpentry table saw. You push the tile on a table through the cutting blade that is positioned under the table. The cutting blade spins through water so that the wheel is kept cool and dust is minimized. You should remember that a table top model involves line of sight cutting from the cut line to the cutting blade. It might not be as accurate as you want for some cuts. You also have to deal with friction when you push the tile on the table. This can make getting a smooth cut harder. You also might want to think about a miter attachment to assist you with specialty cutting. Also see if your saw is rust resistant. This will make your saw last much longer
Overhead Motor Wet Tile Saw
This type of saw provides your contracting jobs with the optimum amount of control for all the cuts you need to make. The tile is pushed on a table and rail system through the cutting blade. The blade is above the tile. So, it is easier to line up the cut line and the cutting blade. This makes this type of saw the most precise. Many of these saws have stands, or you can purchase a stand for them. The water to cool the blade is provided by a pump or by a hose from a water source. Remember that this is the most serious and expensive tile saw. It is for the heavy duty contractor. It is rather large and can take some time to put together. And many of these saws are only available with a pump. The MK-101 is an excellent choice for your contracting company if you do a lot of tile jobs.
